I am happy to know you are looking forward to this. I am not unfortunately. I am not sure if it is because I was never really attracted to the side books, or, and that is probably the real reason, if she is busy writing screenplay, when will she find the time to write books? I miss reading what she wrote much more than watching movies.

Maybe it's exactly because Rowling is writing the screenplay you could look forward to it, Marielle. At least it's not as if some other (rather less talented in my opinion) scriptwriter messes around with her stuff...

I think it's a fantastic idea. As Rowling will be in charge, it will turn out great.

Thank you for sharing this, Potter2005  ;D

Oh I am very excited over the prospect of a movie written in the Wizarding World by the one person who knows the most about it! I was always upset by the mistakes and guffaws in the movies. The writers were writing somewhat 'blind' as they didn't know where the story was actually going so they guessed what was important and often missed significant things. This is guaranteed not to happen in these movies! I am sure JKR is now well schooled in the ways of setting up a manuscript so that the movies will be terrific. I for one, can't wait!

I am a little bit torn, because like Marielle I think her books were always a million times more interesting than the films, but even so.... this means that we will get more canon facts from the wizarding world!  :stars: :yay:

With all her talks in interviews on how happy she was to not write under pressure and not in a hype, I was loosing hope of ever finding new books/other material penned by her from the wizarding world... and I thought that was such a pity... So therefore I am thrilled about this, even if it is not a book. And who knows, if she gets enthralled in this world again, maybe we will get more books too, eventually?  :lunathestral:

I don't understand how it's going to work to have the story set in New York.  Also, I imagine that screenwriting would be very different from writing a book, so I don't really know what to expect from Jo there.

I've had the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book sitting on my bookshelf for years but haven't read it yet.  I suppose I should try to read it soon.

From what I understand Jo has a LOT of background information about Newt and the animals he lists in his book are all animals he has come across in his travels over five continents. Apparently he has also been the Headmaster at Hogwarts for awhile. So I don't think the entire film will take place in 1897's New York. I think it will just start there.

The Beast book is a lovely and funny little book, made even more endearing by the trio's scribble over the pages. There's a highly amusing game of Hangman inside the front cover, I think anyone who takes part in our Hangman game will be a lot better at guessing than Ron...  :fredgeorge: Oh, and yes, ss19, there's something hidden in there with a reference to a certain favourite Professor of yours....  :fredgeorge:

From the article linked to above:

The book was written by Rowling between the publication of the fourth and the fifth books in the Harry Potter series. It is set 70 years before we first meet Harry.

So if the screenplay sticks to this timeline as well, and if we met Harry in 1991, this sets the films in the 1920's.  I would love to see the wizarding world in the '20's!  I can only hope that we might see a young(er) Albus Dumbledore, and perhaps at least hear reference to some relatives of characters whom we've already met.

I can't wait until we hear some casting news.  :wizard:

Finally some new news about this movie trilogy has surfaced. Apparently Warner Brothers have set a release date for the first movie in the US to 18 November 2016.

Empire Online: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Set To Land In 2016
While it's been reported in several different online articles, this was one of the longer ones (in relative terms).

So far there is no director, cast or other info added to the film's data at imdb, saving a Trivia post that claims that Alfonso Cuarón have expressed a possible interest in directing it during an interview with Vulture. I am assuming this is the interview in question, which means the Trivia section might not be something to rely on as far as this being a clear desire of Cuarón's.

When and why does WB sets a date for a comming film though? Do you think something has changed behind the scenes, such as the script being done or something, for them to set a date? Or is it a goal more than anything that someone has decided upon for some more administrative reason, like economical planning or whatever?

Fantastic News for fans of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! The script is done and at least David Heyman likes it! Here's the link :

The bad news is it still isn't going to be out until November of 2016. Can we wait?

[From the linked article]
"Jo [Rowling] has written a wonderful script," Heyman said. "It's early stages. David Yates is directing and we start filming next year. I'm just really excited about it."
:stars: :yay: :stars: FINALLY! This project moves along....

Thanks for the heads-up, HealerOne!

Yes, 2016 is a long time ahead, but once they start to cast people, maybe some more info will gradually start to trickle in... Here's to hoping!

Film info on IMDB (hopefully the title is in English when you look at it...) everything else is in English even when I do.
