The story of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close revolves around Oskar trying to find the purpose of a mysterious key that belonged to his late father, but the key does more than simply move the plot along.  How many different ways does the theme of a key fit in to the story?  Does it have symbolic value?  What does it represent to Oskar?  What were your feelings when Oskar finally discovered the purpose of the key; were they similar to Oskar's?
